A 2022 study conducted by researchers at the University of Newcastle and Flinders University in Australia yielded alarming results regarding Teflon-coated (non-stick) cookware.
🔬 Results:
Researchers found that a single small scratch on a pan can release approximately 9,100 microplastic particles.
If the coating is more damaged (such as with cracks or peeling), the release can reach up to 2.3 million microplastic and nanoplastic particles during the cooking of just one meal.
